Ma recherche porte sur la manière d’identifier comment les défauts génétiques de l’immunité prédisposent les patients à des maladies infectieuses. Une des énigmes fondamentales en maladies infectieuses est la variabilité des résultats cliniques entre les individus exposés à un même environnement microbien. Pour un microbe donné, qu’est-ce qui distingue ceux qui sont « bien » ou « légèrement symptomatiques » de ceux qui développent des « maladies potentiellement mortelles »? De l’évidence démontre que des mutations au sein de gènes critiques peuvent causer une variété d’immunodéficiences, engendrant une susceptibilité humaine à des maladies infectieuses spécifiques. Mon programme de recherche se distingue par son unique habileté à attirer les patients (et les membres de la famille concernés) atteints d’infections inhabituelles, sévères ou récalcitrantes dans le laboratoire et de les étudier méticuleusement à l’aide d’études de pointe en génomique et en immunologie fonctionnelle et de systèmes modèles dans le but de définir les principes fondamentaux de l’immunobiologie humaine. Ainsi, notre objectif est de transformer nos découvertes en thérapies innovatrices utiles pour les patients et de découvrir les nouvelles maladies en immunité humaine.Membre de l'équipe
