Research Interests

My research is focused on improving diagnostic tools and care for infectious diseases in remote and low resource settings (LRS), including in Northern Indigenous communities in Canada. This is done through the development and field validation of diagnostics, implementation research, and translation to the regulatory and policy level as technical adviser, for instance, to the World Health Organization, Health Canada, the Committee to Advise on Tropical Medicine and Travel (CATMAT), the Institut national d’excellence en santé et en services sociaux (INESSS), and product development partnerships. In addition, a core activity of my group involves optimizing current diagnostic laboratory approaches and innovating clinical bacteriology diagnostics for low-resource settings, aiming to contain the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
