Congratulations to Dr. Donald Sheppard who was recently appointed to the position of Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University. More info on the McGill University Website.

As Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Dr. Sheppard will build on the department’s successes in emerging areas such as pathogen virulence mechanisms, microbiome, and innate immune responses and help generate new knowledge in understanding pathogenesis resulting from infection and immunological processes, with the aim of ultimately translating these into novel treatments, diagnostic tools and vaccines to improve human health locally and globally. To this end, Dr. Sheppard will establish productive links with a diverse group of researchers across the McGill campus, the MUHC and allied healthcare institutions and foster cross-disciplinary initiatives within the Faculty. Working with Dr. Gruenheid, he will also develop strategies to enhance excellence in undergraduate and graduate education in Microbiology and Immunology while actively promoting the Faculty’s teaching and research mission.
