Research Interests

My research focuses on improving our understanding of neglected bacterial infections that disproportionately affect people living in conditions of poverty and social marginalization. More specifically, I study culture-negative bacterial infections, particularly louse-borne Bartonella quintana among populations experiencing homelessness. Most of my research is centred on developing and applying molecular tools to better diagnose these often-overlooked infections. I investigate how these pathogens are transmitted within communities and work closely with community and humanitarian partners to identify practical approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and care. By integrating laboratory science, clinical research, and community partnerships, I aim to strengthen infectious disease surveillance and ensure that advances in diagnostic microbiology benefit underserved populations.
