Ma recherche porte sur les infections nosocomiales en Afrique et au Canada, avec un accent sur les mesures spécifiques de contrôle des infections qui amélioreront la qualité des soins prodigués et la sécurité des patients. Les infections nosocomiales et la résistance aux antimicrobiens sont des causes majeures de morbidité et de mortalité chez les patients hospitalisés des pays industrialisés. Le poids des infections nosocomiales et de la résistance aux antimicrobiens est très peu connu en Afrique, où une surveillance systématique est limitée par de pauvres infrastructures de recherche. Nous procédons aux analyses systématiques des caractéristiques des infections nosocomiales dans un grand hôpital de recours en Éthiopie, conjointement avec la formation en maladies infectieuses et le soutien du laboratoire de microbiologie. De plus, nous évaluons les impacts des diagnostics de laboratoire et de la gestion des intervention antimicrobiennes sur les résultats des patients, les prescriptions antimicrobiennes et les tendances de la résistance antimicrobienne en Éthiopie et au Canada.Membre de l'équipe
